District 1 is the first complex of Yiwu market and considered to be as the big brother of all other districts, built in 2001. It was opened on 22 Oct, 2002 and covers an approximate area of 3,40,000 square metre, holding 10,500+ businesses and hosts 9000 booths.
This market is divided into five business areas – the Warehousing center, the Shopping center, the Manufacturers outlet, the Food court, the “Subject of Market” area.
District 1 is a four storey building. Each floor is filled with different things:
- First floor is occupied with toys, artificial flowers and accessories.
- Second floor is occupied with jewellery and hair ornaments.
- Third floor is occupied with ornaments (including accessories), ceramic and crystal, decorative craft etc.
- Fourth floor is occupied with Taiwan Mall which includes flowers, ornaments, crafts and Factory Outlets.
- Also having a sourcing trade for Foreign Trades.
On an average, 40,000 people visit this market everyday in which around 5000 are foreign visitors. Commodities from district 1 are exported to more than 200 countries. District 1 is appointed as a shopping and tourism spot. It is entitled as first “five star market” of Zhejiang province by PICB (Provincial Industrial and Commercial Bureau).
More than 70% of products are exported. But again there is a problem. Mostly sales don’t understand other language. They speak very little English and only understand “how much”. But they can show their prices on calculators with no difficulties. Thus for proper communication, you will need an interpreter/translator.
Yiwu market are excellent in providing facilities like centralized air conditioned, escalators, control center, broadcasting system for conveying message to more than one person at same time, information consultation system if there is any query of customer. Further there are more things in front of the building like restaurants, banks, Pizza Huts, MC Donald’s and Burger King. But there is one issue regarding International Credit Cards that is you can’t use them here. Cash would be preferred if you are buying stock.
